Secured loan rates reach record highs

Research carried out by price comparison site MoneySupermarket.com found that interest rates on secured loans have hit all-time highs.
The study found that the average interest rate paid on a £5,000 loan has increased from 7.29% in September to 8.44%.

Secured loan providers increase rates

Despite the Bank of England’s base rate cut last week, some secured loan providers have continued to increase their rates.

AA Loans have increased their unsecured loan rate by almost 1% to 9.4%, whilst Lombard Direct increased its unsecured loan rate from 7.8% to 8.3% on a £7,500 loan.

Beware illegal lenders, says CAB

The Citizen’s Advice Bureau has teamed up up with local trading standards officers to warn consumers off using illegal lenders.
There is a predicted surge in the amount of people taking out secured loans with illegal lenders over the Christmas period.
